Mahavir Jayanthi is one of the important festival of the Jain community. The Jain community celebrates the birth anniversary of the 24th and the last Tirthankara, Vardhman Mahavir, the founder of Jainism as Mahavir Jayanthi every year.
Mahavir was born in the 7th century BC and his birth anniversary is celebrated by Jain Community in a grand way. The shrines and temples are decorated with flags on the occasion and the idol of Mahavir is given a ritual bath before being taken out for a grand procession. Jains donate money, food and clothing to the poor on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanthi. In some places Jains organize free food and drinks for all the passersby.
